Austin School Council Nominations

The Austin School Council will be holding a special election for a 2-year term due to the resignation of a current member of the council September 20, 2015 because of a family relocation.  Nominations will be accepted through October 1st and voting will take place on Thursday October 16th.  Please turn in any nominations to the front office.

PTA Co-Presidents' Report

We are six weeks into this school year and already had so many exciting things happen at Austin. We have almost 400 families that have joined the PTA and the Austin Eagle Foundation is off to a fabulous start raising $105,000 so far.

The Austin directory is available online for all families who have entered their information. Our first spirit night at Chick-fil-A was a huge success we raised $550! A special thank you to our wonderful Austin teachers Ms. Stoudenmier, Ms. Christensen, Ms. Stores and Ms. Thornton who took time out of their personal lives to top our children's ice cream with sprinkles and a great big smile! We are so lucky to have such dedicated, loving teachers! School picture day ran very smooth and the yearbook is taking shape to include photos taken of our students, teachers and staff. We are looking forward to the fall activities and the wonderful fall weather that is to follow.

Austin Email Changes                   

Parents, please be aware that the district's email system transfer was completed in June. Faculty and staff emails ending in @fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us are no longer active AND will not return (or "bounce back") undeliverable mail.

 

New, current email addresses for all DCSD employees end in @dekalbschoolsga.org. Please take a moment to update your contacts list. If you have emailed faculty and staff about an issue but have not yet received a response, please check the Austin website for the teacher's correct email and resend. Thank you.

 

 

 

Grade Shade Day

Friday, September 25th

Show your class spirit by wearing your "grade shade" on Friday, September 25th. The colors are as follows:

 

Pre-K,K      Red

1st              Yellow

2nd            Orange

3rd             Green

4th             Purple

5th             Black

 

 

 

BoxTop Contest               

October 2nd

The first BoxTops contest for 2015/2016 is just around the corner!  The deadline for our first contest is Friday, October 2nd!  The top class in each grade will receive a no uniform day on Thursday, October 8th, and the overall top student at Austin will receive a $5 gift card to 5 Below!

 

No need to wait until October to start bringing them in, all BoxTops turned in count for the next contest throughout the year.  So, start sending them in now!  

 

Things to remember:

  • Please check expiration dates (sorry, but expired BoxTops do not earn money for the school, so they are also excluded from the contest).   

  • Also, be sure to include the student's name and the teacher's name on the outside of the collection bag to ensure the class and student get credit for the contest. 

  • Lastly, if you really want to make us happy, bag them in groups of 50 (it is a great counting exercise for the kids & saves us time!)

  • We collect BoxTops, labels for education & Tyson labels.

Scholastic Book Fair                    
Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28

Save the date for our Scholastic Fall Book Fair!

  • The Book Fair is a great opportunity to encourage your children to read with a fabulous selection of books available from Scholastic.  

  • We have several programs to help teachers get more books into the classroom, into our school library, home with our students, and to children in need. More information will be sent home in TIP on September 24th.  

  • Enjoy a STEM demonstration from Mr. Coleman and browse a selection of his recommended books to support our STEM program.

Volunteers Needed!

Lunch Bunch Volunteers Needed!

Austin Lunch Bunch is up and running! If you haven't already signed up, please access the provided link and sign up today! It's a great way to see your kids and volunteer during lunch time!   Please click here to volunteer.

 

 

Media Center Volunteers Needed!

If you haven't signed up yet to volunteer in our fantastic media center, please consider taking on one of these quick, relaxing, and therapeutic 1-hour shifts. You will primarily spend your time re-shelving books and occasionally assisting students in checking out books when Mrs. Kossak is engaged in classroom story time. 

Use the convenient link here to choose a shift that best fits your schedule...  8:15am-9:15am, 11:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-2pm Monday - Friday.

Also, as a Bonus to Kindergarten parents, Mrs. Kossak holds a weekly storytelling session in the library for the Kindergarten classes.  This is a fun time for you to volunteer and see your child at school to give him/her a quick hug. The story time schedule is below:

Wednesdays:
